SETUP


Step 1. Connections


Connect the N4 with your computer using the provided USB cable.
Connect your speakers to the rear Master Output using proper RCA or XLR cables and your Headphones to the front socket.
Use the provided Power adapter and power on the unit from the rear side Power button when all connections are made.

Step 2. Drivers


No drivers are required to be installed. The Numark N4 is a USB Class Compliant device and your Operating system will automatically install the necessary drivers when the unit is connected to your computer.

Step 3. VirtualDJ


Install VirtualDJ 8 from http://www.virtualdj.com/download/index.html (in case you have not done already)

Start VirtualDJ and login with your Account credentials.

A Pro Infinity, Pro Subscription or a Plus Numark N4 Controller License is required. http://www.virtualdj.com/buy/index.html

Detection Window
A detection window will appear when the unit is first connected with VirtualDJ.

Click on the "Use Soundcard" button so that VirtualDJ will apply the pre-defined audio configuration (speakers need to be connected to the Master Output of the unit)

Click to OK



The N4 is now ready to operate with VirtualDJ

MIXER & BROWSER CONTROLS

Press this button down to access secondary actions as described in the SHIFT ACTION column
1 CROSSFADER
Blends audio signals between decks assigned to left and right sides
2 X-FADE ASSIGN
Assign decks to Left or Right side of the crossfader. When both XFADE buttons for a deck are off, the crossfader will not affect the output of a deck (THRU)
Assign decks as Left or Right side of the Video Crossfader. When all Video X-FADE buttons are off, VirtualDJ will use the Left assigned Deck and the Right assigned Deck as Left and Right for the Video crossfader
3 PC/LINE
Led Indicators for Source status of Mixer Channels 3 and 4. Source selection is done via the SOURCE buttons at the front panel of the N4
4 VOLUME
Adjust the Volume of each mixer channel
5 CUE/PFL
Send Channel's pre-fader audio signal to the Headphones Channel (for pre-listening)l
Select the pre-fader audio signal of a Deck as the VU-Meters indicator. If none is selected, the VU-meters will indicate the Master Output Level
6 BASS
Adjust the Low (Bass) Equalizer Band of each mixer channel
7 MID
Adjust the Middle Equalizer Band of each mixer channel
8 TREBLE
Adjust the High (Treble) Equalizer Band of each mixer channel
9 GAIN
Adjust the applied Gain (post-fader) of each mixer channel
10 LOAD
Load the selected track in Browser to Decks 1 to 4.
Hold down for more than 1 second to unload the same deck
Manually set a Deck as Master Deck (so that all other decks to sync on this one)
Hold down for more than 1 second to set Master Deck selection back to Auto mode (VirtualDJ will be automatically selecting the Master Deck depending on which deck is out on Master Output
Leds above the LOAD buttons will indicate the selected Master Deck and will blink if the Manual Master Deck selection mode is selected.
11 BROWSE
Scroll through files or folders
Push to toggle focus between the Folders and the Songs List
Select a Video Transition
Push to set focus to the Folders List. If focus is in Folders list, push to expand/collapse sub-folders
12 CUE MIX
Set Master Output audio signal when in maximum MIX position.
Send the audio signal from decks that have the CUE/PFL enabled to the Headphones channel when in minimum CUE position.
Blends audio signal from Master and Decks in all other middle positions
13 CUE VOL
Adjust the Output Volume of the Headphones channel
14 BOOTH VOL
Adjust the Volume of the Booth Output (connection at the rear)
15 MASTER VOL
Adjust the Volume of the Master Output (connection at the rear)


 

DECK CONTROLS

16 CUE
Set a temporary Cue point when track is paused. Preview track while pressed. Jump and stop at Cue point if playing
17 PLAY
Play/pause track
18 PITCH BEND
Temporary (while pressed) speed-up/slow-down track. Track will resume to the tempo designated by the pitch fader, once button is released
19 SYNC
Match Deck's Tempo (BPM) and Beatgrid phase with the ones from the Master Deck
20 TAP
Manually tap this button to the tempo of the track to calculate the BPM in case its not correctly calculated by VirtualDJ.
Re-analyze track;s BPM and Phase (will undo the manual Beat changes from the TAP use.
21 SCRATCH
Toggle between Scratch (Vinyl) and Bend (CD) modes for the Jogwheel
Set Jogwheel to Search (Seek) mode
22 KEYLOCK
Turn Keylock (Master Tempo) on/off. When enabled, the key of the track will retain its value while the tempo is changed
Turn Pitch-Lock on/off. When Pitch-Lock is enabled (global mode for all decks), the Pitch faders of all decks will be linked and moving together as one.
Led will blink if enabled.
23 PITCH RANGE
Select the next available -/+% range for the Pitch fader
Select the previous available -/+% range for the Pitch fader
24 PITCH
Adjust track's tempo (BPM)
25 JOG
Touch-sensitive jogwheel for scratching (when in Scratch/Vinyl mode) bending (when in Bend/CD mode) or fast searching through track;s time when in Search/Seek mode
26 DECK LAYER 1/3 - 2/4
Select which deck will control the left and the right deck side of the unit.
Left side button toggles control between Decks 1 and 3.
Right side button toggles control between Decks 2 and 4.


 

EFFECTS, LOOPS, HOTCUES & SAMPLER

27 LOOP IN
Set a Loop In (Start) point for a manual loop
Halves the size of the loop
28 LOOP OUT
Set a Loop Out (End) point for a manual loop. Use the same button to exit a loop if enabled
Doubles the size of the loop
29 RELOOP
Enables the last triggered loop, or exits the loop if enabled
When a loop is enabled, moves the loop backwards by the amount of beats equal to the current loop size
30 SMART
Turns Smart Loop mode on/off. When enabled, manual loops will auto-adjust to the nearest loop size (in whole beats) providing a seamless loop
When a loop is enabled, moves the loop forward by the amount of beats equal to the current loop size
31 EFFECT/DELETE
turns the selected Effect on/off
Enables/disables the HotCue Delete mode
32 EFFECT/CUE1
no action
Assigns or jumps (if assigned) to Hotcue 1.
If the Delete mode is enabled, deletes the Hotcue 1
33 SAMPLE1-3/CUE2
Trigger 1st/3rd Sample from the Selected Sampler Bank
Assigns or jumps (if assigned) to Hotcue 2.
If the Delete mode is enabled, deletes the Hotcue 2
34 SAMPLE2-4/CUE3
Trigger 2nd/4th Sample from the Selected Sampler Bank
Assigns or jumps (if assigned) to Hotcue 3.
If the Delete mode is enabled, deletes the Hotcue 3
35 FX PARAM1
Adjust the 1st Parameter of the selected Effect
Selects an Effect
36 FX PARAM2
Adjust the 2nd Parameter of the selected Effect
37 SAMPLE1
Select the Sampler Trigger mode
Adjust the Volume of Samples 1 (Left side) and 3 (Right side)

Select and loads a Sampler Bank

39 MIC 1 GAIN
Adjust the level of the MIC1 Microphone Input
40 MIC 1 SOCKET
Connect a Microphone to this socket using a 1/4" cable/adapter
41 MIC 2 SOCKET
Connect an additional Microphone to this socket using a 1/4" cable/adapter
42 MIC 2 GAIN
Adjust the level of the MIC2 Microphone Input
43 MIC EQ
Adjust the Low and High Equalizer Bands of both the Microphone Inputs
44 MIC ON/OFF
Turn the Microphone Inputs on/off
45 SOURCE PC/LINE
Select the source sent to Mixer Channels 3 and 4. When in LINE position, the audio signal of the sources connected at the rear INPUTS will be routed to Mixer Channels 3 and 4. VirtualDJ Decks 3 and 4 will be muted in this case
When in PC position, the VirtualDJ Decks will be routed to those Mixer Channels
Led Indicators of the Source status available at the top panel
46 CF CONTOUR
Choose between Scratch/Cut and Smooth/Normal mode for the slope of the crossfader.
47 HEADPHONES SOCKET
Connect your Headphones using a 1/4" or a 1/8" cable or adapter





48 POWER
Connect the provided AC/DC Power Adapter and power on the unit with the Switch button
49 USB
Connect the N4 with a USB port of your computer using the provided USB cable
50 USB IN/TIMECODE
Set to TIMECODE position to route the Inputs to the USB Audio Interface (for DVS/timecode use)
51 MASTER OUT (XLR)
Connect your amplifier or your amplified speakers to these sockets using proper XLR cables. The Level of this Output is controlled by the Master Vol knob at the top panel of the unit
52 MASTER OUT (RCA)
Connect your amplifier or your amplified speakers to these sockets using proper RCA cables The Level of this Output is controlled by the Master Vol knob at the top panel of the unit
53 BOOTH OUT (RCA)
Alternative Output to connect speakers for monitoring using proper RCA cables The Level of this Output is controlled by the Booth Vol knob at the top panel of the unit
54 INPUTS 1/2
Connect external media sources such as Turntables, Cd Players, Media Players etc. Set the LINE/PHONO switchers to the appropriate position, depending on the source type. The routing of these inputs to the Mixer or the USB Interface depends on the SOURCE select and USBIN/TIMECODE switchers that the front panel of the unit
